Hi There:
I was station at O’Brien barracks from Nov,1979 thru Aug,1982 in Headquarters troop, Transportation Section. I was in the POL squad. I fueled a lot of M-60A3′s M113′s and other tracked and wheeled vehicles. We still were doing Cold War exercizes and fustrated that the world was at relative peace. We were the Most Battle Honored Cavalry Unit in the U.S. Army and we were ready for anything. SFC Thomas Tinsley was my platoon SGT. He was a pretty laid back guy. But when it was time to move, we were ready. Lt.Col. Ronald Copes was our commander and he was running in front of the squadron every day for P.T. I became a Man in my time with the “Blackhawk Squadron” and I’ll never forget the experience.
I wsn at O’Brien Barracks from 1973 to Dec 1975. Turret Mech. M551. If you know me or just want to respond I am on face book. Would like ,to hear from Sgt Welch, Sgt Childers, Willy Boom, O. D. Green, Casselberry, Mike Stogich (spelling is incorrect), Vernon Dale Edwards, That is a few I know more to come later. I have not been back to Germany.
I was stationed in Schwabach in the same platoon as Stanley and Paul (Childers). O’Brien Kasserne is on facebook too. You can hook up with others there too.
I had brief contact with Paul (wife Marianna?)shortly after I got out in 75. They were (perhaps still are) living in the Palm Springs area east of L.A.(Calif)and I went to visit them. I live in the Long Beach area about an 1+1/2 away from there.
I visted Stanley in the summer of 77 when George Kirschner(B troop 73-75)and I drove back to the Cincinnati area to vist George’s uncle in Indiana. George and I stayed close until about 1980 when our contacts kind of dropped off.
That’s the last I’ve heard of those 2.
Again check the O’Brien Kasserne page on Facebook for any updates on people too.
I was stationed there from 1980-1982 in Bravo Troop, 1 Calvary 1 Armored Division. I played on the troop’s basketball and baseball teams. I ran the communication for the troop. I also ate a lot of great food, gained a lot of weight. Six months before I was transferred state-side, I began to run a lot in the breathtaking fields. I eventually lost the weight. I’ve been a civilian now for quite some time. Germany was a wonderful experience. I will truly never forget the winters, the awesome summers, and the friendly culture. Mikes Pizza can never be duplicated!! God bless such the beautiful land of Schwabach!!!
