Hi all! I was stationed at Pinder from April of 88 to April of 90. Some of you might know me and some of you may not. I was in svc 6/1 fa in the mess section. I was thinking about some of my old pals at Pinder and was wondering how everybody is doing. I do remember the good times I had in Zirndorf and Nurnberg, especially at the Cinderella bar, the rock bar, Waikiki bar, and of course, the good ole green goose. Just wondering if some of my old friends still remember me. If you still do please respond to me at bigrangersean@yahoo.com. Today I am happily married and I am attending the Evergreen State College in good ole Washington State and should be graduating next June.

    Hello everyone,

I am looking for an old friend that used to be stationed at Pinder from about 1978 to 1983. His name was Charles Vandiver, E6 at the time I met him in 1979. I do not know his unit but when you went through the arch it was to the right all the way in the corner. If anyone would remember him let me know.

    Iris

Okay, I was there from ’88 to ’91 in 1/22FA which became 2/1FA. I was a mechanic for the Bravo Bulls. Spent alot of time mooning over a girl named Babsi Bohner and shooting pool in Zirndorf. Did the desert campaign, too. I miss some of the places and some of the people but I absolutely don’t miss running a VTR out in the field in freakin’ German winter! I appreciate this site, and my wife is glad to see something of where I’ve been in my life. Thanks.

Hi All, I was in Scv Btry, 6/14 FA from 4/75-5/75. I was a VTR ( M-578 ) operator and track and wheel mechanic. What a great time. Yeah I was a screw up due to the great hash, which at 54 YO, which I just turned yesterday, 7/22/10, I still miss. Got messed up with that damn China White and powdered my nose quite regularly. Wish I never had of done any of it except maybe the hash. Dang that stuff was so good. Sure would like to hook up with some old friends. I see a couple of old names in the old pages. Makes me sad to know that Pinder is gone. Man we had some great times. Kono Kiki, you still alive and kicking you Crazy Hawaiian Guy. How about Gopher? Mo you still in San Antonio? Sure do wish one of my best friends Roger Jolin would get in touch. Damn I miss you Roge. Tony Sonnenberg, we have talked a few times over the years, how you been? Sad about John Karanski. Guess he got heavy into drinking when he got back to the world and did himself in. Bummer dude. Hope the good lord is taking good care of you you goofy bastard. Still loved you even though we were like oil and water.
Tommy Brauer, you still kicking? Anyone know anything about CSGM Johnny Brown. He was the Battalion Motor Pool Sgt. I’d love to see, talk to or hear from Sgt Brown. He was or is by far one of the coolest people alive in my book. Cool deal going on here and thanks whoever owns this site for providing us a place to meet and greet.
I’m sober, 54, single and own my own Harley repair shop out here in God’s country, NM. Give a shout and let’s shoot the breeze. Boj.

I stayed at Merrell till I rotated out in May of 71.

I loved Pinder. It was so rural and majestic. Most of my good memories of my military service were from Pinder.
I am sorry to hear that both of those posts have been torn down.

Some of my good friends there were (in no particular order):
Reggie Fields, John Anderson, Don Dagenhart, Jon Ritter, Charles Call, Robert Wright, James Bookout, (maybe wrong first name, but Bookout was from Port Orange, Fla.
    Steve Garvey, Madison, IN

And someone else, who left about 6 mos after I arrived. He was from Ackerswitch, Mississippi. I wish I could remember your name. You showed me foosball and called all of us new guys ‘Fish’.

  17. Donald Kilgore says:

I am sadden to hear that Pinder is gone. It was my first and one of the fondest assignments I had. I serve with HHB 1/22FA in the FIST Platoon with SFC Vestal, PFC Rose, and PFC Rineberg. DIVARTY was just right inside the gate and I remember the day I left passing through the gate, I knew at that point, I was going to miss the kaserne. I am glad I found this site that will keep its memory alive.

I remember you,I was there from 79-82 2nd howitzer section,SGT bower, gunner,I remember Lemoines yellow corvette.

      • Paul Dobler says:

I remember you to. I certently rember the yellow vet and some crazy gunnery sgt we had. SGT Forbes was the FDC chief, CPT Squires was the BC and 1SG Ogles was our TOP. It seemed like we lived in GRAF those days and had alot of good parties in the rec room. Funny how time flys by because it seems like yesterday I walked out that gate on 4-20-81 for the last time.

        • James bower says:

I agree with you 100% just like yesterday,(base piece fire for effect),charge 7 green bag, high angle lumes,VT fuses, willy peter’s,white bag country, rail heads to Vilseck,I can still hear and smell that experience behind that gunners sight. Walking through the slop and rain to the mess truck in Graf. those were the day’s to remember,Iwas told that Top Ogles and CPT. Squires have passed away, makes me wonder how many others aren’t with us anymore.I plan a trip back to Germany soon to visit Zirndorf before I leave this world. Nice talking to you Paul.
